I like to think I’ve been interested in “people science” since I was young. Of course that term wasn’t part of my childhood lexicon, but I grew up in a household fascinated by why people do what they do. Our parents valued empathy, compassion, and curiosity. They were both educators-turned-executives, and our family conversations often centered on questions about happiness for all, success for all, and the pursuit itself.

And in a nutshell that’s what People Science is: the study of what makes people happy and successful at work, and how to create environments and habits that promote happiness and success. 

But what, exactly, does that mean? What is People Science?

Let’s start with how we at Glint think about People Science, and what it means for our customers.

People Science is an agile and people-centric approach to the study and practice of happiness and success at work. It integrates fields of study like industrial-organizational psychology, organizational development, and occupational psychology with increasingly relevant fields like data science, product management, and design. On the practice side, People Science connects the traditionally siloed programs of employee engagement, performance management, and learning and development into what we like to call a unified People Success program. In our experience, this holistic approach better helps people bring their best selves to work so that they can do their best work.
